Lead Custer Battle U.S. Springfield Model 1873
Description
Trapdoor Carbine. Serial number 36,245. This falls in the middle of the Custer era High Serial Number Range for Carbines (33,000 – 43,700). Custer era carbines in this range were issued to the 7th U.S. Cavalry Companies. The 7th Cavalry apparently did not keep serial number records as to who the carbines were issued to. Among the carbines returned as "unserviceable" after the Little Big Horn Battle were #35,487 and 37,178. Serial number 36,451 is an identified Little Big Horn Relic (Men at Arms) and carbine serial number 36,442 is a recapture from the Indians (Custer Battle Guns/du Mont). This carbine is 100% correct and guaranteed as such. The stock has some dings as expected, bottom of forearm has what maybe a Company and Rack Number carved into it, "M 35 or "53 W" depending on how it is viewed. Two DVD’s included showing thorough inspection of Carbine #36,245 as depicted in the photographs. All the correct markings are present along with the ESA cartouche on the stock. The stock is correct being of the “Short Comb/Long Wrist" type. Caliber 45 – 70 (45-55 carbine load). Also included is the Little Bighorn Battle roster for “M Company", Seventh Cavalry. Does not require FFL Transfer.
